Calendars and Periods

Calendars define the time dimension of accounting in the General Ledger. Every ledger references a calendar, and every journal entry is posted into one of that calendar's periods. Period statuses control when each period is open or closed for a given application, allowing different modules to close at different times.

Chart of Accounts

The chart of accounts defines the account structure used to classify every financial transaction in the General Ledger. Rather than a flat list of account numbers, Raytio uses a multi-segment model where each segment draws its allowed values from a value set, and the segments are assembled into a structure that defines the full account string.

Currency and Conversion Rates

Currency conversion is essential for any organisation that operates across multiple currencies. The platform stores conversion rate types and daily rates that are used whenever a transaction needs to be converted from one currency to another — for example, when a foreign-currency invoice is posted to a ledger with a different functional currency.

FGL Data Model Overview

The FGL data model is built around five core areas — Chart of Accounts, Periods and Calendars, Ledgers, Journals, and Balances — with supporting entities for value sets, segments, code combinations, and period statuses. Understanding how these relate is the key to understanding how Raytio records and reports on financial activity.

FGL Journals and Posting

The general ledger records financial activity through journal entries that are grouped into batches and posted to update stored balances. This page explains the batch/header/line model, the posting process, suspense handling, journal reversal, balance roll-forward, and the reporting views.

FGL Roles

The FGL module uses a layered role hierarchy that integrates with the platform's authorisation model. Three roles provide progressively broader access to general ledger functions.

Financials – General Ledger (FGL)

Raytio's Financials – General Ledger (FGL) module is the central accounting record for your organisation. It manages the chart of accounts, ledgers, calendars, currency rates, journal entries, posting, and stored balances. Sub-ledger modules such as Accounts Receivable (FAR) and Accounts Payable (FAP) feed transactions into the general ledger, where they are posted and rolled up into period balances.

General Ledger Setup Walkthrough

This guide walks through the steps required to configure a working General Ledger from scratch. Complete these steps in order — each step builds on the previous one.

Ledgers

A Ledger is the top-level container for journal entries in the General Ledger. Each ledger ties together a chart-of-accounts structure, an accounting calendar, and a functional currency — the three pillars that define how transactions are classified, when they can be posted, and in what currency balances are maintained.
